ToS from avis.com

When one rents a vehicle from Avis, one "may be asked to sign a declaration attesting to specific criteria, among them:
  • ....
  • The renter/authorized driver has not, within the last 36 months failed to report or leave the scene of an accident."
Hmm.

For three years, anyway. Hurrah for parallel construction!

I'm sorry. In my hurry to be witty, I seem not actually to have read your comment. What I meant was that the expanded form of this particular 'criterion' is: "The renter ... has not, within the past 36 months, failed to report or [failed to] leave the scene of an accident." Had Avis been trying to encourage public-spirited behaviour, they might have rephrased it as "The renter ... has not, within the past 36 months, failed to report or left the scene of an accident." However, this phraseology, grammatically correct as it is, has the problem you have mentioned.
